US 45 Bypass

Saline, Gallatin & White Counties, IL

 

Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW) provided engineering and design services for the reconstruction of US 45 from IL 142 in Eldorado, Saline County, to IL 141 in Gallatin/White counties. To better serve the area, many improvements were implemented, and a multitude of possible impacts from the changes were considered for the design such as:

  • Improvements:
    • Widened the 2-lane roadway into a 4-lane with median facility
    • Widened an urban section from 2-lanes to 5-lanes
    • Reconstructed 3 major structures along the route
  • Reduce Impact of:
    • Noise
    • Ecology
    • Hydrology
    • Cultural
    • Farmland

While considering the impacts, the land use was maximized, and hazardous material impacts were identified and avoided as much as possible. Several Phase I alternates were designed within the corridor to evaluate the effects of each one. This allowed the least negative impact to be selected. BFW is proud of their contribution to expand and improve the transportation infrastructure and safety of the US 45 Bypass.
