US 45 Bypass

Saline, Gallatin & White Counties, IL

Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering & Testing, Inc. provided engineering services for the reconstruction of US 45 from IL 142 in Eldorado, Saline County, to IL 141 in Gallatin/White counties. The project included widening the existing 2-lane roadway into a 4-lane with median facility. It also included widening of an urban section from 2-lanes to 5-lanes with the city of Eldorado. There were three major structures along this route that were reconstructed as well. Context sensitive designs were incorporated into the design to reduce noise, ecology, hydrology, cultural and farmland impacts while maximizing land use and identifying/avoiding hazardous material impacts. Several Phase I alternates were designed within the corridor to evaluate the effects of each one.
