Essential Job Functions:


In this position, you will be responsible for quality control, construction monitoring, evaluating materials and workmanship, and interpreting contract documents.  You will also perform soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete testing; inspection of reinforcing steel, wood framing, structural steel, light gauge metal framing; seismic inspection of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and ceiling grid.  All these will require frequent reporting to the project manager and will make you an essential part of ensuring projects are completed in a timely and workmanlike manner. 

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to move, lift or carry objects or materials up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to physically maneuver construction sites and excavations
  • Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communications in the English language, including the ability to communicate directly and over the telephone and be understood.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Assist with wetland, stream, and ecological assessments, including expertise with USACE wetland delineation methodologies
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, mitigation plans, and data analysis related to environmental projects which could include CWA Section 404/401 permits (Nationwide and individual), stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), and other permits/reports as required.
  • Support Environmental Services by creating simple maps, uploading data from natural resource databases, using KMZ files, and organizing and maintaining shapefiles, maps, data files, and metadata.
  • Collect and organize field data, ensuring quality control of data or samples collected in the field. Assists in the preparation of reports, mitigation plans, and data analysis related to environmental projects.
  • Use a variety of computer programs to compile, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data and field pictures (ESRI, MS Office, Adobe or Bluebeam REVU, Google Earth, etc.).

Civil Transportation/Roadway Engineer

Springfield, Illinois

Bacon, Farmer, Workman Engineering & Testing, Inc. is seeking a Civil Transportation/Roadway Engineer to join our Springfield, Illinois office.

US 45 Bypass-Saline, Gallatin & White Counties, IL

Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college
  • 3+ years of relevant transportation engineering work experience designing roadway projects
  • Engineer In Training Certificate issued by the State of Illinois, Professional Engineer License, or ability to obtain PE license, within a reasonable period of time is a requirement for this position. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently licensed PEs in the State of Illinois or those who can be licensed in Illinois within 6 months. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Programs
  • High level of organizational and management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to be self-motivated, friendly, and positive in the work environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and able to work to meet project demands and deadlines. 
  • Experience with MicroStation, Power Geopak V8i Powered by OpenRoads Technology, and other related design software applications for roadway and structure design.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:


  • Planning and design of urban and rural roadways, site developments, and stormwater management/drainage design
  • Coordination with regulatory agencies, utility companies and sub-consultants to obtain information, guidance, and requirements
  • Manage project budgets and schedules
  • Attend Client Meetings
  • Investigate field conditions as well as read and comprehend as-built drawings, construction specifications, client base standards, and technical information to develop drawings.
  • Develop plans and related documents from engineering input; perform necessary mathematical calculations and prepare details and other related requirements as part of the overall bidding/construction document package.
  • Utilize MicroStation, Power Geopak V8i Powered by OpenRoads Technology, and other related design software applications for required for plan production.
