To attain better accessibility, the St. John’s Newman Center entrusted Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW) to renovate their Catholic Church on the UIUC campus, which is connected to a dormitory. BFW renovated multiple areas to achieve this goal, including:
- Replace the Steps:
- Remove the old steps
- Reconstruct the foundations
- Install new limestone steps
- Install an Elevator to the Church Exterior:
- Created the structural design to preserve the design and function
- Ensure the exterior finish matched the elegant and stately finish on the rest of the church
The elevator will particularly aid in providing balcony and choir loft access to all students and other churchgoers who wish to enter the St. John’s Newman Center, located at 604 E. Armory Ave, Champaign, IL. BFW is proud to have been a part of the renovation process to provide more accessibility and function to the St. John’s Newman Center.
