Shut Eye Creek
Missouri Route 149 at Shuteye Creek-Adair County, Missouri

For the Shut Eye Creek project, the existing bridge carrying Missouri 149 over Shuteye Creek in Connelsville, Missouri, needed to be replaced. The project is in the Chariton River floodplain, a large water course in northeast Missouri, so the project site is subject to significant backwater events from the Chariton River. In addition, owner erected levees are upstream of the project site, complicated storm water runoff, and affected design high water elevations at the new bridge location and requiring detailed hydraulic modeling. This challenge required Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW) to provide design engineering, administration, and analysis services such as:
- Extensive hydraulic analysis
- HEC-RAS hydraulic modelling
- Preliminary roadway and bridge plans
- Final roadway and bridge plans
- Horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design
- Structural design
- Maintenance of traffic
- Erosion control plans
- Geotechnical investigation and report writing
- Floodplain development permit acquisition
Using innovative superstructure design, the new bridge was built in a manner requiring minimal new roadway construction resulting in project savings. BFW is proud to have contributed to the increased safety and utility of the Shut Eye Creek bridge.
