The Paducah Head Start Preschool project aimed to enhance and expand early childhood education services in the community. Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW) and Marcum Engineering collaborated on the project; BFW provided comprehensive engineering services such as:
- Conducted boundary surveys
- Provided geotechnical services
- Designed the water main extension
- Oversaw construction administration
Meanwhile, Marcum Engineering provided design, mechanical, and electrical engineering services and implementation such as advanced HVAC systems which integrated Medformance Green Tech in-duct air purifiers. The Medformance purifiers utilize photocatalytic oxidation to eliminate airborne volatile organic compounds, ozone, odors, and chemical vapors, removing up to 99.9% of particulate pollutants, thereby promoting a healthier learning environment.
The new 44,640-square-foot, single-story Head Start building can now accommodate 320 preschool children, 45 more than before, and includes new features and capabilities such as:
- 16 full-day classrooms
- Occupational and physical therapy rooms
- Speech-language and social sensory rooms
- Administrative offices
- Family services suite
- Homeless transitional spaces with a clothing and food pantry
- Library media center
- Parent and staff training facilities
- Kitchen
- Gymnasium
In addition, the Head Start building offers high school students enrolled in early childhood education courses at the Paducah Innovation Hub convenient opportunities for hands-on experience, fostering educational collaboration. BFW and Marcum Engineering are proud to have aided in the creation of a larger, healthier, and more engaging facility for the students of Paducah.
