Murray State University Lovett Auditorium

Marcum Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for the historic renovation of Lovett Auditorium at Murray State University. Originally built without modern HVAC systems, this 23,900-square-foot facility required a highly detailed design approach to preserve its original appearance. Due to the facility’s scale, the project was phased, with extensive planning for a modern underfloor displacement HVAC system. This approach allowed for compact equipment that delivers air directly to occupants, resulting in a silent system ideal for auditorium use. The design carefully navigated the existing underfloor wood and steel structure, seating layouts, and limited crawlspace, successfully blending the auditorium’s traditional aesthetics with an innovative, modernized HVAC system for improved comfort.
