Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW) collaborated with Steve Sims as the lead architect, from Architechniques Limited, on the Herrin JHS Gym and Cafeteria addition. From BFW, Josh Alstat and his team were responsible for the entire structural design for this portion of the cafeteria addition and the foundation design for the gymnasium, and they worked closely with the pre-engineered building manufacturer. The gymnasium and cafeteria have numerous features such as:
- Cafeteria:
- 11,100 square foot cafeteria
- Concrete masonry block walls
- Open web steel bar joists for the roof framing
- Gymnasium:
- 11,600 square foot gymnasium
- Pre-engineered building system constructed out of steel frames
Also from BFW, Chris Matthews and his team provided geotechnical services such as:
- Soil borings
- Laboratory testing
- Geotechnical report
- Overseeing any geotechnical related questions
Currently, H.E. Mitchel Construction is managing the project through the construction phase. BFW is proud to provide the structural design and continuing support with questions that arise during construction to ensure safe, reliable, and long-lasting additions to the Herrin Junior High School.
