Dr. Howard Elementary School

Champaign, IL

The new Dr. Howard Elementary School completely replaces the old school building and grounds that were present at the same location. Dr. Howard is a K-5 school with a 345 current student enrollment. The new school is one of a number of results of the $183.4 million referendum passed on Nov. 8th, 2016. The design team was lead by RATIO Architects with BFW providing structural design for the project. The new school design pays respect to the original school building architecture while providing modern layout of flexible classroom spaces with beautiful naturally lit collaboration areas. The gymnasium also doubles as a Storm Shelter designed to keep the students and faculty safe from an EF-5 tornado. Nestled in the beautiful west side residential area of Champaign, the New Dr. Howard Elementary will successfully service the community for many years to come.
