Carterville Jr. High Classrooms Addition
The project involved revamping a computer lab and a science lab, alongside the construction of four additional classrooms. Marcum Engineering and Bacon Farmer Workman collaborated closely to bring this undertaking to fruition.
Marcum Engineering designed the fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, lighting, and special systems; meanwhile, Bacon Farmer Workman designed the site and structural elements. The Base Bid included site work, utility relocation, new and infill concrete slab-on-grade, CMU/brick exterior wall construction, CMU interior walls, education and science lab casework, science lab learning and safety equipment, plumbing modifications, fire protection extension, revisions to the existing HVAC systems and new HVAC systems, electrical power revisions, LED lighting upgrades, Fire Alarm extensions, low voltage data systems, and more. In addition, the Alternate Bid #1 added the renovation of a current CMU building with a complete overhaul, including demolition and new work. Within this scope of work, gypsum wall board and vinyl windows were replaced with metal studs and gypsum board interior walls and aluminum windows. All civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems were updated to match the new and improved buildings to ensure the complete site was considered throughout the project.
The new facilities will empower Carterville JH to allow their teachers to bring in more experiences and opportunities for the students with the new display boards, lab rooms, safety equipment, and space to accommodate more classes
