Marcum Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for a phased HVAC renovation of the 27-year-old Hardin County Justice Center. The project addressed immediate failures, improved system capacity, and upgraded outdated components while maintaining building operations.
Project Phasing and Scope:
-
Emergency boiler replacement and six critical heat pump replacements in 2023
-
Rental fluid cooler installed to maintain cooling during design and procurement of new fluid cooler (2023–2024)
-
New fluid cooler installed with increased capacity to meet building demand
Major Renovation Phase (2024–2026):
-
Remainder of heat pumps replaced across the building
-
Area isolation valves added to allow phased work and maintain system functionality
-
Makeup air units replaced and upgraded to include energy recovery features
-
Ceiling and lighting replaced in approximately half of the facility
Operational Considerations:
-
Phased design to minimize disruption and maintain building functionality during renovations
-
Use of design alternates to prioritize scope based on available funding
