Drainage Improvements at 364 and Bennington Interchange

The $472,091.33 project consisted of the installation of an improved inlet structure at the crossroad pipe culvert under Bennington Place, which connects to a large multicell detention storage basin under the NW quadrant of the interchange on Rte 364. The previous inlets appeared to be improvised from materials at hand, modified on several occasions, and allowed vegetation and trash into the detention storage basin. To fix this issue, Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW), in collaboration with the St. Louis District Area team and with detailed input from local operations and maintenance personnel, developed multiple options to fix the culvert and provided services such as:

  • Engineering:
    • Roadway design
    • Bridge structure design and detailing
    • Construction staging
    • Work zone traffic control
    • Informational support for permitting, plans, specifications, and estimate production
    • Construction support
  • Culvert Work:
    • Removal of the existing culvert inlets
    • Consolidation into one structurally designed box culvert extension
    • Durable protective grates and bearing plates which can be removed for maintenance
  • Additional Work:
    • Clean out of over 500 feet of channel
    • Finish grading the channel slopes without impacting existing utilities
    • Installation of a combination of rock blanket and district specified permanent slope reinforcement matting
    • Improved and secure access to the site

BFW is proud to have redesigned and cleaned up the drainage at the Route 364 and Bennington Interchange, which will allow more access, provide significantly more reliably drainage, and create a safer and longer lasting structure.
