Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

Harrodsburg, Kentucky – Mercer County

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill consists of approximately 40 historically significant structures from the early 19th century and surrounding environs is a national landmark representing one of the largest extant and historically accurate representations of Shaker communal life. The project aims to utilize ground source, such as geothermal, HVAC and LED lighting throughout and introducing these to the two important and historically significant buildings, the Meeting House and Centre Family Dwelling. To accomplish this, Marcum Engineering provided design services and planning while Bacon Farmer Workman (BFW) provided civil services such as:

  • Comprehensive Historical Restoration and Sustainability Plan
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Electrical engineering
  • Plumbing

Beginning in January 2016, the Phase I Renovation targeted the three most-significant buildings within the village with a budgeted construction cost of approximately $10.5M. the project was funded through a Lilly Endowment, Inc. grant which Shaker Village secured. BFW and Marcum Engineering are proud to have assisted in the preservation and protection of one of Kentucky’s most historically important properties.
