BFW is seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer for our Brentwood, Tennessee, or Belleville, Illinois, locations.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering required.
  • 0–4 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of residence.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:


  • Support the planning and execution of subsurface exploration programs, including boring layouts and utility-clearance coordination.
  • Perform field investigations (soil borings, sampling, and observations of field conditions) and document findings.
  • Collect soil, rock, and groundwater samples; coordinate transport/delivery to the geotechnical laboratory for testing.
  • Assist with geophysical surveys and specialty field testing as needed to support project requirements.
  • Analyze field and lab results to support geotechnical evaluations, engineering analyses, and basic design calculations under licensed engineer supervision.
  • Prepare field logs, summaries, and draft sections of geotechnical reports; support proposals, cost estimates, project documentation, and tracking/budgeting activities.
  • Position will include both office and field work.

  • Lead geotechnical projects from planning through completion, including scope, budget, schedule, and deliverables
  • Serve as the primary technical and project point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams
  • Perform and oversee geotechnical analyses, designs, and interpretation of field and laboratory data
  • Plan and manage subsurface exploration programs and coordinate field operations and resources
  • Prepare, review, and seal professional geotechnical engineering reports
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development and client relationship efforts

Geologist

Paducah, Kentucky

BFW is seeking a Geologist for our Paducah, Kentucky, location.

 

US 45 Bypass-Saline, Gallatin & White Counties, IL

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering (required).
  • Valid driver’s license in your state of residence (required).
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Registered Geologist (RG) license (preferred).
  • Experience with geotechnical/geological software (preferred).
  • Experience conducting Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including environmental boring logging and soil and groundwater sampling, preferred.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:


  • Plan and lead subsurface exploration programs for geotechnical projects (drilling, test pits, and geophysical surveys), including site assessments and geologic mapping.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Collect, log, and interpret soil, rock, and groundwater data; maintain clear, detailed field documentation.
  • Supervise drilling crews and coordinate field logistics (staffing, schedules, equipment utilization, and maintenance needs).
  • Troubleshoot field challenges (drilling conditions, sampling constraints, and subsurface variability) and drive timely resolution.
  • Develop subsurface geological models and deliver quality project outputs (boring logs, cross‑sections, and reports) in collaboration with engineers, clients, and internal teams.

 

Work Environment & Travel: 

  • This position is field‑forward and includes outdoor work in varying weather and site conditions. Travel to project sites and occasional extended field days should be expected.

  • Design using AutoCAD and Revit as needed for plan production
  • Oversee, check, and stamp electrical drawings for compliance with Illinois and Kentucky regulations
  • Focus on client relationships by demonstrating strong performance and creative solutions to meet the clients’ objectives
  • Serve as a resource, leader, and mentor for the other engineers and designers within the department

  • Populate and verify Excel‑based traffic analysis spreadsheets.
  • Finalize conceptual traffic graphics for reports, studies, and public materials.

  • Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with engineering plans, specifications, regulations, best practices, and safety standards.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve construction challenges and ensure timely project completion.
  • Document and report inspection findings, including any non-conformities, and recommend corrective actions.
